Braces Braces

Caring for your braces is fairly simple. During your treatment period, you'll need to avoid sugary, sticky foods that will stick to your braces. You'll also need to skip hard or crunchy foods that could break the brackets or wires. Damage to your braces can extend your treatment time.

A few simple things to avoid

Quick fixes to common problems

In all cases, if you experience a problem with your braces or teeth, please call our office immediately (610-872-7274) or call your regular dentist. Without proper professional attention, a problem with your braces can lead to serious dental issues or prolonged treatment.

If you've lost a tooth, gently rinse it with water, reinsert it (if possible), and call your dentist right away. If your dentist is unavailable, please go to the emergency room. If you cannot reinsert the tooth, immerse it in milk or water and take it with you. Immediate treatment is critical.

If you have a loose band or bracket, leave it in place if it's still attached to the wire. If it's uncomfortable, you may put wax on it. If it comes out all the way, please arrange an appointment and bring it with you.

If a wire comes loose, you may use tweezers to replace it in the appropriate brace. If that's not possible, you may put wax on it or clip it with fingernail clippers. If you must clip it, cut it as close to the next brace as possible.

If a wire is poking you, try to push it down with a pencil eraser or put wax on it. Please make an appointment so we can fix it.

If your appliance is broken or your jaw is locked open, please make an appointment immediately. If it sticks or pokes, you can put wax on it.

If your face-bow is bent, call us right away. If your headgear doesn't fit, you may not be wearing it correctly. Please see us to have it aligned correctly.

Soreness can be reduced by rinsing with warm salt water for 30 seconds. Try rinsing 4 times per day for 3 days. You may take ibuprofen for the pain. If you still have discomfort, please make an appointment.
